I’m Back. Well I Was Never Gone, But…
Even Google Gets It Wrong
Yes Google does get it wrong. But there are still “crushing it.” So you can’t make an omlette without breaking a few eggs. And Google has there fair share of broken eggs as you can see below.
What can we draw from the fact that Google fails too? Well for one if you don’t try you will never know. To be surging ahead with innovations you need to be on the cutting edge, so you will get a little nick every now and then.
Enjoy.

Where Have I Been?
I have been here but I haven’t been updating my blog. I have been working on doing this years Challenge, which is all about building micro niche web sites. Back to basics in a big way and it has been great. I am keeping a journal of my progress at Luke Miller’s “The Challenge” 2010 Journal.
So if I do have any readers I am sorry for not posting content of late.
You will find some tips and tricks used on Research: Keyword Selection and Keyword Competition which I just added at LukeJMIller.com. Click on the link above to check it out.
I have tried to give a run down on some ways to narrow down a big list of keywords into a few little gems that can be used to build content for a new or existing website.
I hope you enjoy it. Let me know either way.
“There is no way I am doing what I am told. I won’t conform to a set of rules. I will add a little bit there and change this, then tweak that.”
That’s how I have approached the last few challenges. And whilst I don’t think there is anything wrong with doing things your way I was not really giving the “Challenge” team a fair crack at my time.
You see, by not following the plan as set out you aren’t letting the story play out as engineered by Ed, Dan and the team. I would add my little spin on things as I went along. Like I said, you need to be flexible but why not give it a shot…as written. But at the same time you can’t deny yourself the urge, and right, to be an individual. If we all did everything the same then nothing would be different.
So this year my “Challenge” commitment is this:
“I, Luke Miller, solemnly swear to carry out the instruction given to my by the team at “The Challenge” exactly as given. I will not add or subtract what I think is best. To satisfy my desire to tweak things I will build a competing site with similar competition and traffic statistics in the same or closely related niche. I will then be able to compare the results of a “Challenge” site and a “Luke Miller” site whilst giving both the best chance to succeed in complying with their plans.”
This way my “Challenge” site will get to be a “Challenge” site and I will get to compete with it by developing my own site using my own plan. The winner will be crowned “the ultimate champion of the universe” or something very similar.
Please follow along with my progress and the fight for glory and fish sticks. `
Mindset: Is Yours Right Or Wrong?
Before you start abusing me, I agree you may not be able to summarize mindset into “right” or”wrong.” But this doesn’t mean there are parts of the makeup of your mindset that aren’t holding you back.
Specifically I wanted to talk about the “opportunity seeker” mindset. Let me try and sum this up (and this is from personal experience). You will scan your email quite often looking for new stuff. When you find that new stuff you will stop doing whatever you were doing to read the email. You are particularly excited when that email is another pitch from a guru for himself or one his buddies. You read the text and let yourself be taken by the request to click no the link.
You are whisked away and then let yourself be absorbed by the sales copy (or video as is the rage). Now when this all starts you know that it is probably the same old stuff with a new “secret sauce” and you won;t be fooled. But as the story continues you start to let the hypnotic sales process slowly change your mind. Your inner voice goes from saying, “rubbish” to “what if.” As soon as you say this the deal is pretty much done.
The effective marketer moves in for the kill and finishes you off. You pull out your wallet and order like a good customer should.
If the product is electronic it may be instantly delivered. The ordering motivation is still strong within you and you get stuck in straight away. You read and do as instructed. You are making progress. All is good.
Now one of two things will happen. You will either hit a stumbling block where the product author has left you to your own devices or maybe something is left out altogether. You struggle to answer the questions that the little inner voice is asking. That motivation created by the dream of riches created by the sales process is now gone. And the voice is saying “I told you so. I knew this was too good to be true.” Now you are setup for the next phase of being an opportunity seeker.
Whilst you are struggling, and in opportunity seeker mode, you are now a lone soldier on a battle field. And here comes the opposing army in the form of new pitch emails. You allow yourself to open up one and then the next. You follow the link and before you know it you are being carried away on another journey in sales page bliss. You have been saved from that last dismal product by the next best “shiny” new one.
And the process repeats….
The thing is any of the products may be fine just how they are. “Just do it” works to a point but then it is missing some pieces. A formula of sorts for getting over the hurdles. But that is a story for another day
I thought I’d forgo the usual introductory posts associated with a new blog. You know the one that goes, “Welcome to my blog. I like long walks on the beach and eating croissants with chop sticks. Please be my friend.”
No. I wanted to get straight into the meat or for the vegetarians out there, the tofu.
So here is my first brain dump….errr….content addition to LukeJMiller.com, Quick Ways To Make Money – A Fallacy? Please check it out and make sure to leave a comment. I want to be guided by want the people (I’m sure they will come) want to hear.
